About Mongolian local currency Tugrik (₮):

Tugrik is Mongolia’s official currency. It’s abbreviated as MNT and represented by the symbol ₮.

$1 = 3450₮

You can exchange your money in all bank branches around the city and all small towns or provincial centers while traveling in the countryside. 

About cell phone:

f you have a roaming service, you can use your cell phone as usual.
From the airport, you can purchase a local SIM card that comes with data, which will enable you to access the internet while in the countryside or in provincial centers and towns. The signal is available almost everywhere in Ulaanbaatar city.  

Keeping your passport and cash safe:

Many countries in the world experience pickpocketing in crowded areas such as streets, museums, shopping malls, and especially in black markets. To keep your personal belongings and official documents safe, you can wear a belt pouch under your shirt. Additionally, you can put your passport in a ziplock bag to protect it from rain and water. It is also advisable to print two copies of your passport and leave one at home with your family or friends, and the other in your suitcase or bag for emergencies.

Packing tips for the Ulaanbaatar city tour:

In religious monasteries, it is polite not to wear too revealing clothes. It is also slightly chilly inside the monasteries. So bringing a hoodie to wear inside would be best advised. Ulaanbaatar is elevated around 1500m above sea level with mostly sunny, dry and cool weather therefore, please bring your sun hat, bottle of water, sunscreen and just in case of sudden rain a rain jacket. 

Drones and photography:

If you are someone who enjoys flying drones, Mongolia is an excellent destination for you! You can fly them without any required permission, except for the areas nearby the airport and border buffer zones. However, if you plan to fly your drone around monasteries and museums, you may be asked to pay an additional fee for recording videos or taking pictures. Please note that this fee is not included in your travel expenses, so make sure to bring some local cash with you.

How can I charge my camera and equipment?

You will be able to charge your phones in the car while we drive from one location to another or at a ger camp. For some ger and camping stays, you might not have many opportunities on charging your electronics, so please make sure to bring extra sets of batteries for your camera as well as power banks in your hand luggage.

What is the electrical plug type in Mongolia?

In Mongolia,  power plugs and sockets are of mostly type C and some E with two round holes. The standard voltage is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. All of the gers will have outlets, but not a lot. Please make certain you bring adaptors and a power strip, or a single multiple port USB charger is helpful.

Packing tips, horse riding equipment:

Bring good-quality riding boots, rain jackets, riding gloves, and windproof jackets among others. You don’t need to bring a saddle or bridles as we have comfortable western-style saddles for our horses and our horse guide will take good care of them.

For your own comfort and convenience, you can also bring your own helmet, although we do offer them if you let us know in advance that you won’t be bringing your own. You can also bring a small-sized saddlebag for your personal items and a saddle pad.

Please note that there are mosquitoes near rivers or lakes in the evenings in the Northern parts of Mongolia. Therefore, we highly recommend bringing mosquito spray and insect repellent.

Horse riding and riding time for Horseback Riding Tour Mongolia:

If you have no experience in riding a horse, don’t worry, you will receive detailed instructions from your Tour Leader on how to ride a horse, sit on the saddle, hold the reins, and more.

All our team members are trained in First Aid, so we are capable of providing you with medical assistance and taking you to the nearest hospital as quickly as possible, in case of any emergency. However, if you follow the instructions from your horse guide, the chance of getting injured is very low.

There are specific time limits for horse riding per day. Each day’s schedule may vary depending on the local weather. You can expect to spend anything from 2-8 hours, including breaks and meal stops. Activities such as stopping at local herdsmen or sightseeing will also be counted as riding hours.

Camping trip food:

Please don’t forget to mention your dietary requirements and allergies when you fill out the application form. We will provide mineral water, tea, and brewed coffee every day. There may be some days when we won’t have soda or juice available. If our itinerary includes a lot of driving, we will have a packed lunch on the way. 

Reindeer related information:

With the owner’s permission, we can ride a reindeer for a short time, as long as the rider weighs less than 70kg.

Domestic local flight baggage:

The baggage allowance for a domestic flight in Mongolia is 15kg total with 10kg for check-in luggage and 5kg for hand luggage. Extra luggage incurs a fee of 3000-5000 Tugriks per kilogram.

Our team of experienced tour leaders and guides are certified English speakers and first aid help providers who will be your close companions throughout your trip, and even after you depart. Each member of our team has undergone personal training by the Mongolian Professional Tour Guides Association our tour leaders.
